How do you create and raise the Stop Loss in DAS?
Robert H replied to Monk's topic in DAS Trader Pro Tips and Tricks
Monk, your screenshot is setup correctly. Note that everybody's DAS configuration is constantly evolving--even Andrews--so minor differences are expected between the download files and prior videos. What's important is that you learn the settings for yourself and modify your setup to fit your trading style. As for the +/- 0.05, those are marketable limit order which ensure you get filled. Andrew discusses this further in class 3, but here are some forum resources on the topic: Post 1 Post 2 A lot of members use the the keyboard hotkeys, while some use the hotkey buttons. It really depends on what you're comfortable with. This post explains the difference between the two, as they are often confused because of the similar names. -
BZUN ABCD – March 6, 2018 BZUN gapped up to all-time highs. It grinded up the entire day, never losing the VWAP once. At the close, I saw an opportunity to ride the momentum after an ABCD formed. I entered on a new 5-min high at $45.87, with a stop below the 9 EMA at $45.60. The target was $46.50 (half-dollar level) for a risk/reward of 3.7. I took profit at the first target and continued taking off a third every 0.25 or so. It continued making higher-highs and higher-lows, so I was in no rush to get out. The final shares were sold at $47.77. It quickly popped up to 48.75 just a few seconds after, but what can you do. The stock was really extended at this point and a dump was possible with the closing bell just minutes away.

You need to zoom out to see more. Down arrow or minus sign. Or you can change the hotkey command for F1/F2 to default to a certain number of bars. Like this: F1: MinuteChart 1 1d; NumBar 30; F2: MinuteChart 5 1d; NumBar 24

Day Trading Journal for Robbie W
Robert H replied to Robbie Williams's topic in Day Trading Journals
I was in sim today, but I try to stay true to my stops as much as possible. Are you still exiting in thirds? I take my first profit after a 0.30 to 0.40 move. I try to take profit again at the first target. This leaves me with 45% of the shares remaining. From there I take profit based on price action (lower highs, lower lows; double bottoms, dojis, engulfing, new 5-min high or low, etc.). I try to exit everything well before break-even. Still learning and getting better at this, though. Sometimes I keep a tiny size (like 10%) for as long as possible. This means break-even, or sometimes even slightly red. I recall my VRX short last week, my final 10 shares generated more profit than my first 33! Taking profit is probably the most overlooked day trading skill. Everyone is concerned about setups and entries, but all of that is meaningless if you don't get paid! -
This is a very common question, so hopefully this post can be a good reference. There is a new hotkey command called DuplicateWindow which lets you 'clone' an existing Montage, Time/Sales, or Chart window. All settings like hotkey buttons, colors, fonts, etc. will be copied over. How to: -Go to menu Setup > Hot key -Add New Item -Enter a Name and Hot Key. In the Script Field, enter DuplicateWindow -Press Commit Now you can simply select the window you wish to duplicate, then press the hotkey (CTRL+D in the above example). And voila, attack of the clones!

Computer Screen Setups
Robert H replied to msig12's topic in Day Trading Hardware, Software and Tools
I have 2x34" Ultrawide monitors. From another post: I am able to fit 10 montages in my DAS layout which includes: 8 x Stations with 5 min chart, L2, Time/Sales 2 x Stations with 1 min chart, 5 min chart, L2 Time/Sales Central “hub” showing Market Time, Top List, Open Positions, Open Orders, Watch List, Windows Calculator Bear Bull Traders Chat and Andrew’s Trade Idea Scanner I found that dividing your monitors horizontally into equal thirds/halves makes configuration much easier. Just duplicate the stations for perfect symmetry. Once you've built the perfect DAS layout, it's a just matter of putting your browser and additional windows around it. -

Day trading margin requirements
Robert H replied to GordonDK's topic in Risk, Account & Money Management
Portfolio Margin is a completely different account type. It requires options trading permissions and a minimum net liquidation value of $110,000 USD. I think the leverage is something like 6:1. Read more here: https://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/index.php?f=1451 What you're looking for is a regular margin account (also known as Reg T Margin). This is what I and many other traders have. What are the options under the upgrade/downgrade Account Type page? -

Robert H replied to GordonDK's topic in Risk, Account & Money Management
Where on the website does it say this? I found this page that says your request will be subject to a compliance review: https://ibkr.info/node/280 I'm guessing they check your income, assets, experience etc. Since I do have options experience, I answered yes during the original application. It doesn't make sense that you need options experience for margin on stocks though? -

Louis, I noticed that DAS doesn't even calculate my buying power correctly, so always trust IB over DAS. When you submitted your IB application, there was an option for Account Type: In Account Management > Manage Account > Account information > Details > Account Details, does it match mine? I would call IB support and ask them to switch account types. -
Saw you mention those flattops in the chat. I was too busy getting chopped up by other stocks to catch them lol. Awesome FL trade today, by the way!

SpeedTrader Promotion: Discounted Commissions
Robert H replied to Robert H's topic in Day Trading Brokers
Yes, they do charge. The platform is rebranded as SpeedTrader Pro. Here is the link to their software fees. -
Please don't take this the wrong way, but I'm curious about your entry signal. The ABCD looks to have consolidated around 1 PM, and made a new 5-min high at 1:10 PM. The entry would have been around $10.25, target at $11.13 and a pretty good risk:reward. I recall Andrew saying that only the first and second momentum plays should be traded. Anything after is less prone to pop. But what do I know--I don't touch low float stocks lol. Thanks for sharing!

That is no coincidence! I have found that days I over-trade, I lose money. This is because I am desperately trying to make back losses and it spirals out of control. It also highlights that I am probably taking lower quality setups and trading midday. My answer to your question would be: the least number of trades to hit your daily goal. If that means one, then that is the ideal number. Today I hit my daily goal with 2 trades and I quickly locked up my montages!

How to add more windows in DAS?
Robert H replied to Nate Z's topic in DAS Trader Pro Tips and Tricks
To add new charts, go to menu Quotes > Chart To add new Time/Sales, go to menu Quotes > Time/Sale To add new Watch List, go to menu Quotes > Market Viewer > Select 2 to 20 To add new Montage, go to menu Trade > Montage Or, you can simply create a hotkey with the DuplicateWindow command. This will copy whatever window you have selected. Here is useful information on how to setup DAS on multiple monitors. -
Hotkeys for Flipping Position

MU VWAP False Break Outs – February 20, 2018 MU was the definition of chop today. The stock was not in play and mirrored SPY tic-for-tic. Despite this fact, I traded it four times and got chopped up six ways from Sunday. I expected the price to break away from VWAP and ignored that we were range bound between the 9 and 20 EMAs. These trades were the perfect examples of revenge trading and letting my emotions get the best of me. I kept going back for more even after admitting it was a chop-fest. First Trade Went short after it closed below VWAP. Price pulled back above VWAP and was stopped out. Second Trade Went long after it closed above VWAP. Price pulled back below VWAP and was stopped out. Third Trade Went short after it closed below VWAP. Price pulled back above VWAP and was stopped out. Starting to see a pattern here? Fourth Trade Went long after it broke above the consolidation area around the 9 EMA, with an ABCD setup in mind. Entered on a new 5 minute high. Got spooked when the price went below the 9 EMA and sold for tiny gain. Notice how it popped up to 45.10 immediately after? I was a psychological mess after losing 3 in a row and let my emotions dictate the trade. Lessons learned: 1. Stay away from stocks that are not in play 2. Watch for moving averages as support/resistance (duh) 3. Stop trading chop out of revenge

Explanation for massive sell-off after market closes
Robert H replied to Martin's topic in Day Trading Basics
In the case of ROKU yesterday, the price moved instantly right at 4PM. I suspect some people were trying to front-run, while others had mechanisms in place to interpret the results with blistering speed. I've heard of language programs/algorithms that can parse text to infer whether the results were positive or negative. ROKU closed at 51.10 yesterday. If you look at the price action from 4:00 to 4:10, the price ranged from 43.50 to 54. This is probably because they beat the earnings expectations but provided negative forward guidance. It took nearly 10 minutes for the market to agree that the report was going to have a negative effect on the share price. Companies rarely release earnings during market hours. This is because such big news can disrupt trading and would most likely trip a circuit breaker halt. In fact, some stocks are halted midday when big news is pending, such as a merger or other corporate action. Releasing earnings in the after hours gives the market more time to digest the information and prevent wild swings (since there are less traders, less liquidity, etc.) In a market where every second counts, there will always be participants trying to position themselves before the majority. That could take the form of betting blindly, using technology to acquire an advantage, or straight insider information. Here is an interesting article that investigates some sort of a leak after the Federal Reserve released news which moved the price of gold before it should have. There was a media black out in effect, so somebody managed to pass that lucrative information along. -
How To Setup Multiple Monitors in DAS
Robert H replied to Robert H's topic in DAS Trader Pro Tips and Tricks
Are you saving the layout as default.dsk? That's the one that gets loaded on DAS startup. Please make sure you click Yes when asking to overwrite. If that doesn't resolve it, you may have a corrupt layout file. Try making one from scratch, starting off as simple as possible. If it behaves as expected, keep adding to it and confirming it works along the way. Let me know how it goes. -
Explanation for massive sell-off after market closes
Robert H replied to Martin's topic in Day Trading Basics
Martin, prices move constantly as long as trading is allowed. This is especially true for earnings that happen after the bell. Numerous institutional and retail traders are either buying the rumour or selling the news, even during extended-hours. Pre-market trading in stocks occurs from 4-9:30am EST, and after-hours trading on a day with a normal session takes place from 4-8pm EST When a stock makes our Gappers Watchlist in the morning, it means that the price is +/- a certain percentage from yesterday's close. All of that movement occurred either during after-hours (prior day), or pre-market (current day). As Abiel mentioned above, the market interpreted ROKU's earnings as bearish and this caused a huge sell-off following the release. Market participants drove the price down either via short selling or dumping of positions. Why wait until tomorrow to capitalize on the news? The early bird always gets the worm. -
How to deal with a EUR/CAD account ?
Robert H replied to TOTO7469's topic in Risk, Account & Money Management
The video player issue is probably flash/plugin related. It works for me on both mobile and desktop browsers. What I mean by initial losses is that you need some USD as a cushion. Since trades on US stocks are automatically settled in USD at the end of day, you may end up in a situation where you have a negative USD balance due to losses and commissions. I believe that you will be charged interest on this negative balance. To remedy the negative balance, you will need to convert some EUR to USD. So rather than deal with that ad-hoc, I just converted a small portion to USD ahead of time. And thankfully I did--I've been in the red consistently since going live! Hope that makes sense.
