1 pointHi Phil, just my 2 cents budding in as usual, I would not use a fixed $150 loss per trade (although that could be helpful from blowing up of course). I would always use R/R. Your long term green success is a ratio of your accuracy and r/r per trade. You throw an arbitrary number in there and it will mess with it.

1 pointHey Phil, Ok, I think I've got something. The only issue is that there isn't (I believe...) a way to set a future price to buy/sell at that will trigger on the ASK or BID when it gets there. You can only set a specific price for a future open order to trigger at. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong on this. If you click on a price on the chart, fire this hotkey script, it will set an LIMIT order where you clicked. If it gets triggered, it will buy (for the long hotkey...) 100 shares and set a stop loss below that price, that will limit any loss to $150: For LONG: Price=Price;Share=100;Route=Limit;TIF=DAY+;BUY=Send;StopPrice=150/Share;StopPrice=Price-StopPrice;TriggerOrder=RT:STOP STOPTYPE:MARKET PX:StopPrice ACT:SELL STOPPRICE:StopPrice QTY:Pos TIF:DAY+; For SHORT: Price=Price;Share=100;Route=Limit;TIF=DAY+;SELL=Send;StopPrice=150/Share;StopPrice=Price+StopPrice;TriggerOrder=RT:STOP STOPTYPE:MARKET PX:StopPrice ACT:BUY STOPPRICE:StopPrice QTY:Pos TIF:DAY+;

1 pointHi Everyone! Like many others on this forum, I'm also looking for a trading partner. However, I'm looking for the right fit as I believe that will be the most beneficial to both of our success. In short, I'm looking for a partner at a similar level to me, although they do not necessarily need to have a similar trading style (in fact, having different trading styles can be extremely beneficial!). So here is some info about me, my trading history, my trading style, and what I'm looking for (I apologize in advance for the long post!): My Trading History & About Me: I've been actively trading off and on since early 2016. More of this time has been off than on due to work commitments and grad school, but I have always actively followed the markets and tried to learn more about trading. I have read quite a few books (including both of Andrew's and Brian's) and am always reading more (currently reading Tools & Tactics by Capra and Trading in the Zone by Douglas). I have also actively followed a handful of YouTube channels over the years based on technical analysis (e.g., BBT, Live Traders, T3 Live). As far as my trading history is concerned, I've had 3 main stretches of active trading over the past 4 years. In my most stretch (the past 6 months), I feel like I've finally turned a corner. While I know it doesn't sound very impressive, it has really been a multi-year struggle for me to get to the point where I am now consistently break even or slightly profitable on a month to month basis. Like many others, my issue is that one red day where I give back some or most of my profits. I believe that having a trading partner could help to keep me accountable, and I could do the same for them. In summary, I believe I am at the point where I have a very solid grasp of the technical aspects of trading, it is now more about focusing on trade management, trading psychology, and executing my trading plan (the far more challenging parts of trading in my opinion!). Trading Style & Management: I prefer to trade mid- to large-cap stocks (ideally $10-150/share) and ~65% of my trades are on the short side. I try not to trade the first 15-20 mins of the market open (unless I see A+ setup) as I tend to be much more of a mid-morning momentum & trend trader. I find that ~10am-12pm EST is when I am the most successful as that usually gives the market enough time to form a pattern. While I use the 2, 5, 15, 60 & daily charts for making trades, my entries/exits are based on the 5 min chart. Therefore, I hold my trades for 5-30 mins on average. I probably average 10-20 trades per day (which I know is probably way too many!). As far as my trade management is concerned, my current daily profit goal is $100 (with $100 max loss). I risk $20-40/trade, and take a 50% partial at 1R and then partial the remaining 50% depending on key technical levels, price action, and Level 2. My favorite setups are LOD break, breakdown of key levels with room to run on multiple timeframes, and parabolic reversals. What I'm looking for: I'm looking for someone that is actively trading in the markets every day, and would be willing chat and review trades on a daily basis. It would be great to discuss potential trade opportunities sometimes as well. Ideally this person would bring a new perspective to my trades, and I could do the same for theirs. Lastly, I'm looking for someone who's willing to be transparent about daily P&L as I think that will help to keep us both accountable. If you think that we might be a good fit, send me a DM and let's find a time to chat. -Brandon

1 pointBy Larry Ginsberg It has been said that humans are creatures of habit, and while we like moments of spontaneity and surprise, we feel comfortable when we know what to expect and can follow a plan or schedule. During the COVID-19 pandemic it has been easy to lose track of time as our rigorous daily schedule and commute have been replaced by being quarantined at home for endless hours and days, and the lack of a schedule has made many of us more uncomfortable than we had imagined. According to Ramon Solhkhah, M.D., chair, Department of Psychiatry, Jersey Shore University Medical Center, “While many of us complain about how busy our schedules are, it represents expectations and patterns that are an important component of good mental health.” He continues, “The pandemic has left many people feeling adrift because those daily routines that were essential to us before the COVID-19 crisis have evaporated and been replaced by uncertainty and a lack of structure that can contribute to stress, anxiety and even clinical depression.”..... https://www.hackensackmeridianhealth.org/HealthU/2020/06/02/why-routines-are-important-for-mental-health/

1 pointHi everyone, I was in your seat not too long ago, in fact about 9-months ago, and what I can tell you is if you are not doing the following listed below if that be on your own or with a trading buddy to keep you accountable, in my opinion, you won't make much progress: 1. In addition to the BBT book family, also read: - Technical Analysis Using Multiple Timeframes by Brian Shannon - One Good Trade and The PlayBook by Mike Bellafiore - The Daily Trading Coach by Dr. Brett Steenbarger - work the above into your trading plans 2. Trade in the simulator until you are consistent for a whole month for each setup you want to be proficient with 3. Track all your stats in the simulator (and live) in TraderVue or some other program. Be deliberate trying to quantify as much about the setup as you can. This will provide invaluable data that will greatly reduce your time to reach consistency and keep you disciplined. 4. Only trade when you get enough sleep the night before. This as much as the above has made a big difference for me. 5. Follow your risk management plan and setup controls so you don't loose more than $X/day 6. Keep at it, especially when you start to get some traction. That's when you want to press hard to do your best to really solidify the good habit of trading only X, Y, Z setups, etc. All the above has in one way or another made small or significant contributions to my rapidly progressing trade consistency and confidence in myself that I can trade well. I went live and didn't do all the above and it cost me. In the simulator again for the past two months and it's a whole different outcome for me now and I know when I go live again with day trading (still options trade as that "clicks" for me easier for some reason), i'll be 100% ready for it. Hope this helps!

1 pointIf someone is interested, I wrote a few AutoHotkey commands to add new rows and perform other actions in the Market Viewer through hotkeys. In the attached file you can find hotkey scripts to: Delete the selected row (ALT+D) Delete all the rows (SHIFT+ALT+D) Add a new row (ALT+N) Export the current list to a file (ALT+E) Import the previously exported list (ALT+I) The last two commands are useful to copy the content of a Market Viewer window to another Market Viewer window Additionally, there is a command to add the current symbol selected in the Montage window to the Market Viewer. However, the script is written to work only if the Market Viewer window is the only one located in the same screen of the Montage window. If you need the script can be adapted to insert the symbol in a specific Market Viewer (follow the instructions in the script). To use the script, change the extension of the file to .ahk and launch it with AutoHotkey (https://www.autohotkey.com/) EDIT: Updated with a new version, including some new functions: Possibility to add the date to the exported files (IncludeDateMVList parameter at the beginning of the file) Some functions to calculate the profit targets based on multiples of your predefined risk A function to drag a symbol from the Market Viewer list to a chart (useful if you don't want to use a montage window for each chart) A function to toggle between standard and bigger Montage window height (to display wider market depth when needed) DAS-BBT-V1.ahk.txt

1 pointHi Al, you can't trade properly inside of a TFSA/RRSP. First, there is no margin leverage. Second, you can't short stocks. And third, CRA may come knocking if they find your account to be used for frequent day trading. I read some articles where people had to pay large taxes/penalties once their TFSA was deemed to be 'too big'. It's a shame really; I'm sure they don't care if you only had losses in there lol. I recently went live and will be speaking to a tax advisor in the coming months. I'll make sure to post a Canadian-version of this very informative U.S. Tax Preparation post.

0 pointsHi Justin, Thanks again for getting back. To answer your question - yes, I was planning on making different hotkeys for something like 100, 250, 500, and 1000 shares. Perhaps just 250, 500 and 1000. If there was a way to do so, I could customize the data in the stop portion of each key to ensure a $150 stop across the board. Thanks again! - Phil
