  1. Good afternoon BBT, What would you say are recommended or required data streams for day trading? Obviously the NASDAQ Level 2, and the NYSE Order Book. But what else? Thanks to all who contribute. -Andrew from Jersey aka Tracksuit Trader
  2. @Justin Thanks for the advice. I ended up piecing together an Acer desktop and monitor for around $750 that should be able to handle all of my current trading needs. Sure beats the over $1.5k I could have paid with Falcon! -Andrew from Jersey aka Tracksuit Trader
  3. Good morning BBT, Something that I am interested in discussing is what people's opinions are about trading either the long side or the short side of the markets. I'm interested in the difference in strategies for both day trading (short-term), and swing trading (long-term). I find that I am biased to play the long side for short-term trades, and then the short side for more longer-term moves. My father was a stock broker and trader during the 80's and 90's, and he was always a short side kind of guy, constantly paying monthly premiums to hold position, but seriously cashing in when the price broke and fell hard, with profit well exceeding his total expenses paid on the position. He was very much influenced by the theory that fear is a more potent emotion than greed, and that while not every fearful person gets greedy, every greedy person does experience fear. I'd also like to see a discussing about the psychology behind this. What is the psychology of trading the long side during short-term moves, or during long term moves? Vice versa, what is the thought process of someone that takes the short-side during the short-term, or long-term. What does everyone else think? - Andrew from Jersey aka Tracksuit Trader
  4. @peterB I'd like the capability of upgrading to two monitors as I become more capable in my trading. I assume the most I would need is a 1080p quality monitor(s). For now, I am interested in a desktop. Again, as I become more educated and capable with my trading, I would consider spending more money on a high-end laptop, but I don't think it's necessary for now. I plan on only using this desktop for trading, and for some very light office usage (Word, Excel, printing). I'd like to keep things around the $1k max budget. I'd be willing to spend a little more if I found a more longer-term setup right out the gate. (I priced a Falcon Trading computer, fully customized for what I'd want now, and in the future, for around $1500, but it seems a little unnecessary for a beginner). Thanks for the response.
  5. Good afternoon BBT, I'm sure this topic has been discussed before, but I'd like some recommendations for a beginner day trading desktop setup. I will be running either Sterling Trader Pro, or DAS, through CMEG. I am still undecided as to what platform I should use. I will also be running Trade Ideas, as well as the chatroom in the background. Admittedly, I am not a computer guy. I know how to use a computer effectively, but I know very little about the actual hardware itself. I've heard recommendations of 4 cores in the processor, 16 gb of memory (DDR4), 250gb hard drive (SSD). I do not know what any of this means, but I do understand the importance of having a reliable, well-performing computer to use while trading. Currently, I have been using my Thinkorswim app on my mobile to use their PaperMoney Simulator to train with, but obviously this setup is not sustainable for continued education, and certainly not for active trading. So, I think it's time I invested in a proper machine to train with, get accustom to, and then to trade real money with. Obviously, since I'm investing my real money into the market, I want to be sure I have the proper tools to capitalize with. Thank you in advance to anyone who reaches out with any advice, or help. I sincerely appreciate it. - Andrew from Jersey
  6. Good afternoon New York BBT community, My name is Andrew, and I'm from Morris County, New Jersey. I am still fairly new to trading, and am currently continuing my education through books, online videos, and now by joining a chatroom. I also trade PaperMoney through my thinkorswim mobile app, for additional training. I am currently saving up enough money to purchase a worthwhile desktop computer that I can use to trade seriously, as trading from a smart phone is not conducive. I am looking forward to continuing my education with BBT, and especially getting to know everyone. Cent'anni, Andrew aka Tracksuit Trader
