Please Take A Quick Survey

Greetings BBTers —

With Andrew's blessing, I'm posting an invite to a survey for all traders:

If you’re anything like me, you’ve experienced the challenge of creating and maintaining trading consistency. Achieving this demands so much, and one of trading's most interesting (and difficult) aspects is that success has no blueprint. Every trader’s path to better results is unique, and I’ve created a survey to learn more about yours.

Your responses will aid the creation of a service designed to help traders accelerate their learning process. I know, it sounds like magic 😄 For now, I can't say more other than that this has been inspired by the crazy trading journey we're all on, along with the amazing traders I've met along the way.

Whether you’re a full-time trader or still finding your feet, I'd be extremely grateful if you take a few minutes to complete the survey.

A couple things to know about your participation…we will never:

  • Share your personal information
  • Share your answers
  • Bug you with unsolicited emails

Please take 5 minutes to complete the survey by visiting this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2VGJGWS

Thank you!

Wesley Picotte

P.S. If you know others who are committed to becoming successful traders, please share the survey link with them, too.

Really interesting survey.  I'm always looking for anything that can help me improve as a trader. It looks like they're working on developing different ways to manage/report the trade information that's important to you. If they can simplify the process while giving me more insight, then sign me up!

Thanks @Hansabraun - much appreciated.

Please share the survey with your trader friends -- we're keeping it up for another week or so in order to gather as many responses as possible 👃

Hi all -

A while back I ran a survey to learn from traders of various experience levels what they believe is important to their development. Then Covid hit, which had a big impact on my personal and professional life, and this project was shoved to the back burner. More recently, I found time to compile survey responses, some of which I’m sharing here (as promised when I ran the survey).

The survey gathered results from two separate trading communities. About 70% of responses came from traders with < 3 yrs total experience, and a strong majority of respondents (90%) focus on the intraday timeframe. Regarding the former point, I suspect this is representative of the trading population at large, though I lack empirical evidence to say so definitively,

The survey was a starting point to understand what’s important to traders based on experience level. I don’t drill down into this in the attached slides, which provide a broader summary. In short, respondents to the survey:

- Believe Trading system / Strategy and Screentime are most important to the process of improving as a trader (slides 4 and 5)
- 76% of respondent keep a trade journal (slide 6), and 77% of these traders journal most trades (slide 7)

Overall, given the slant towards lesser experience amongst respondents, the biases evident in the responses are logical. It’s my belief that new trades default to what’s most material when trying to make sense of markets. In other words, and to paraphrase a former BBTer: you can teach trading patterns to a squirrel, but trading is 90% mental, which cannot be taught.

I started this project because I’m very interested in understanding how traders create improvement and consistency. If anyone reading this is open to participating in an interview about this, please DM me.

Otherwise, comments / questions on the survey are welcomed.
