Hi Rob,
First of all: respect to your discipline and courage to write down all your trades in this BBT-Forum!
Indeed, at BBT there is almost no mentioning (and no trading?) in futures. As I am now doing research in pivot point-trading, I am also interested in trading futures. But, there are some obstacles. The main one at this moment is that I cannot find the right symbols on the DAS platform. Can you give me some examples? For example, I tried symbols like ESK22, #ESK22, ESK2, #ESK2, ES0522, ES05-22, etc etc. It just doesn't work. DAS only gives 'Symbol Not Found'. As far as I know, I have the BBT-DAS-IB-package, including e-mini.
And you write that you use 'NinjaTrader' as platform for futures. Would you (strongly?) recommend that above the DAS platform? And can you tell me what the costs are for NinjaTrader? I know that NinjaTrader has all the pivot-indicators from Frank Ochoa, so that is also very nice to have.
Do you use DAS ánd NinjaTrader?
If you have any more information that I can use at the moment: please let me know. I would appriciate that very much!
And I might also post my journals when I am ready to start live trading. As you write, it will give the accountability I need for my trading.
Thanks and kind regards,
Peter

Thanks, it works!

Hi fellow traders,
I'm very interested in using these hotkeys.
Can anyone tell me where to find the spreadsheet?
Thx!

It doesn't really matter if the hotkey doesn't do the risk %, buying power, and stop loss calculations for you. If you know you can afford that many shares, can handle a mental stop loss if it goes against you, and you wont blow up your account.... then go for it.
But.... As a new trader and you have this amazing tool that can help you with all calculations, proper risk management, and helps protect your account from blow ups.... Sounds like a good thing to use to me 🙂
Thanks for your comment, Justin.
Yes, I'd like to use this tool. But, as we say in the Netherlands: I can't see the forest, because of all the trees.
There is so much information! I know there is a succes webinar from Kyle about this tool, so I'll watch that one of these days.
My question for now is:
What is the script to buy a position worth $ 5.000?
Is that something like:
ROUTE=SMRTL;Price=Ask;Share=5000/Price;TIF=DAY+;BUY=Send
I will try this tomorrow (in SIM of course 😉 )
-
Hi,
I notice the hotkeys mentioned in this forum for entering a trade are with a percentage of Buying power, or risk-oriented.
Is it also possible to create a hotkey for , let's say a $ 5,000 position? Example: I want to buy ROKu for max. $5,000. The hotkey divides $ 5,000 by the last price and rounds it down. $ 5,000 / $ 126.66 = 39.48. Pressing the hotkey will send an order for 39 shares.
Or is this 'not done' and should I start getting used to work with risk-oriented size?
Thanks for your help.

This is exactly the safeline that I need!! Like William I can't trust myself. So great of you to express this loud, William! @WilliamH
I will use this risk controls from now on. It's another step towards getting disciplined :-).
Thanks for the video.

what is the technical reason you think the das shall be quicker as you say?
In that case, I will have to fund more money. Or trade less (no option 🙂 ).
I have no idea why TWS is slower, but that's what I understood from the info at the forum. Do you have a better experience with TWS?
-
Hi WilliamH,
Thanks for your explanation! I did indeed expect that DAS would give me the correct fees, so it is good to know that it is not.
My initial post was not about the fees btw. I probably didn't make myself clear. When using TWS, you still pay for the data ($ 45). And DAS with data is $ 150. So that is a difference of about $ 100.
I made my choice and just subscribed for the DAS platform. Responsive time is important! So coming week I'll have a live account with IB and DAS.
Starting easy (small size, few trades), as I am pretty busy with my 'normal' job at the moment. I am curious whether IB will place the PDT rule on my account or not. While I'm not a US resident.

I think ECN fees are dependent on broker/routing/exchange or some combination. Maybe someone else can clarify, or talk to you broker.
For TWS charts, I have not found a way to replicate BBT's DAS chart colors exactly. It is possible to make the charts close, but the "Bar Up" color seems to be tied to the Background somehow. In a chart, click Edit, then "Global Chart Configuration", then "Chart Colors (on the left of the pop-up window). Under the "General" Tab, you should see, "Bar up", "Bar down", "Background", etc. For me, I can get BBT's DAS color's except the Bar up is not white (it seems to me "Bar up" has to be a different color than the background).
My 2 cents about TWS. I've used it many months to save money after using DAS. I made due paying for Q data only and only trading Q stocks (<$50 per month). I paid the $25 for the 2 week challenge to try DAS again. DAS is much more responsive (when seconds count) and the charting is better. So, it depends. I used TWS because of the month to month cost. If DAS is within your budget, then there's no benefit in using TWS except for a backup (DAS goes down).
I hope this helps.
Hi CassA.
It certainly helps. The platform should response immediately. This seconds count a lot for the way I daytrade, so it will be DAS.
Coincidentally, I read today in the first book of Andrew that he does not recommend TWS for daytrading. It might look like saving money, but it will probably cost more money in the end.
Thanks!

Hi,
I've read the posts about TWS from IB and I understand it's better to pay a $ 100 more and get the DAS platform, right?
Can anybody tell me if TWS has ECN?
And is it possible to configurate the charts in white/black, as many BBT-members have?
Thanks
All other suggestions are also welcome 😁!!

Step 2. Complete the Authorization form below and submit a copy of your government issued ID with the IB Attestation Agreement.
What is this 'IB Attestation Agreement'? How do I get that?
Thanks.

Ah great! Thanks PeterB!!
Yes, I didn't think there would be anyone to see both of my messages haha. But you apparantly see it all :-).

I decided to just open an account with IB and see how it all works. It is probably impossible to visit the US-based website of IB, so I applied to the UK-based IB.
In my account I cannot see the DAS platform, neither can I find if it is even possible to trade with the DAS platform. Can it be that this will be shown after I funded some money?
Or am I not looking right?
I can see the TWS, but I don't know if that is working as good as DAS.
-
Hi,
I just opened an account at IB (UK, while I live in the Netherlands).
It is not clear how I can select the DAS platform. In fact, I can't even find the DAS platform. Can it be that I have to wait until I've funded some money on my account?

I am also in touch with IB UK for opening the account. Do we have any special discount or Offer with IB?
BTW, they confirmed,
1) they only accept wires from bank accounts with identical account titles as the IB account, (No transferwise).
2)Between IB UK and IB USA - the features, the fee structure and everything else is identical. I won't have access to US mutual funds or certain non PRIIPs compliant ETFs. (I don't think this is an issue)
3) they couldn't confirm if DAS will work with IB, but since it works for most of our traders, I assume it shouldn't be a problem.
4) minimum activity fee is USD 10, which is then offset by the commissions generated.Hi IamKarthi,
Thanks for your information. From what country are you trading?
I've watched the sites of Degiro, Lynx and TradersOnly, but I wonder if they have at least the following options: Simulator, Hotkeys, Level2 and ECN. And DAS would be great, but I don't think they have that.
Anybody using one of these European brokers?

21 hours ago, Marek said:Peter, I have used Transferwise to wire money to Europe and Asia....it's easy, fast and a lot cheaper than using my regular bank for smaller amounts. Arrival was usually same day or latest within 2 days.
Hi Marek. This might be the solution to my 'problem'! Thank you very much!

Thanks Peter!
That bonus-thing might be interesting, although one of the reasons I'm into IB is the low commission.
What country are you from?

Hi,
In april my SIM account ends and I want to go live trading. My eye is on IB, but I can not get all the relevant information from their website nor from th BBT-forum. So I'll just throw it in here.
1. Is there an emailaddress where I can reach IB as a prospective client? On the website this is not possible. It leads to FAQ's. If I have that emailaddress, I can send some of my questions to them. But so far, I'll place them here.
2. Are there promotions and/or discounts for members of the BBT-community? If yes, which are these?
3. Is it possible to wire money through Paypal? While it is extremely difficult to get a foreign exchange account here in the Netherlands. And I don't want to lose too much money on financing my bank with exchanging euro's to dollars and vice versa.
4. Are there costs for wiring money from a foreign country?
5. Costs for platform DAS and Market data is still $ 150?
6. Are the costs for DAS waived at some point (number of shares traded)?
7. Does PDT rule apply for non-US residents?
8. Any other non-us and non-canadian residents with BBT using IB?
Thanks a lot for your answer(s)!

After a few months of finally getting tried of trading just to trade, I have been able to develop a solid set of criteria that must be met before entering a trade. I wish I had done this in Simulator. It has definitely cut down on my FOMO, calmed me down while in the trade, and has allowed me to focus on developing my trading skills. Once I can get to a spot were I can trade both 5 minute orbs and 15 minutes in the same day, I think I will be at a spot where I can start to increase my risk per share.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Mike! I will adjust my trading as from today (at least, that is my plan. You never know with us traders hahaha). I don't have a straight plan yet, as you have, but I think I will at least look for a setup (ORB, ABCD, VWAPreversal) that meets all the criteria. And I will also downgrade my size and risk, thanks to a post from Kurt.
And yes, I am now also on the point that I am trading just to trade. And it starts to get bored. No pleasure when I make profit, more by luck than by a good setup!!
Trade well and safe today!

Hi Mike,
Good to read that you did the same. With us probably thousands and thousands others :-).
Thanks for your advices. It makes me think about which way to go! Happily I have two more months before I plan to go live.
How are your trades going now, compared with before?
With jumping in and out I usually end up a bit in the green, but the commissions eat me up haha

Hi Mike,
Respect for your way of organizing and trading!!
I'm now one month in sim and the only thing I do is jumping from one trade to another. I tell myself this is all for practicing. What stocks do work for me, which strategie, what hour of the day works best for me, etc etc. But I know there has to come a time that I have to go back to basics and get more organised. Your posts are a great reminder for me. I probably won't do things as extended as you do, but it might help me to take some steps in that direction.
I also read Mark Douglas and it gives me confidence that I can survive the learning curve. Great to see that other traders (you for example) practice it in the live trading.
Thanks for sharing, Mike!!
Regards, Peter

Hi Robert,
Thank you!
So that's about all the brokers the BBT-members talk about. That is good!
-
Hi all,
Yesterday I thought I read in the chat that IB gives a free simulator (DAS) when having a live account.
Is that really true?
And which brokers also give this free sim when having a live account?
Thanks

I am in Amsterdam but near Diemen so it would be pretty easy for us to meet there, here or anywhere in between. I've been with BBT and trading in SIM for about 6 months now, recently tried to go live but I am still trading with a small size till I feel more comfortable.
Hee Domo,
Dat lijkt mij een leuk idee! 6 maanden in SIM lijkt mij een ongelóóófelijk lange tijd haha. App of bel maar op 06-14970674.
