StockCharts vs TradingView

Recommended Posts

Hi BBT,

As a day trader, does anyone use stockcharts.com or tradingview.com?  If so does one have an advantage over the other?

Thank You!

I use tradingview and love it.  I have tried stockcharts and can verify that it's a solid product as well. The ease-of-use of TV is, I believe, second to none. One of the biggest differences is the built-in scanners in each. Stockcharts has a phenomenal intraday scanner in which you can create your own custom scripted scans down to the minute, using a very simple scripting language. TV has a decent scanner, but you wouldn't want to count on it for your day trading needs. You can't write your own scans. In both packages, you'll need to pay a little extra for real-time data to get the full usage benefits.

The research and analysis tools may be better on stockcharts. Not the charting analysis tools, but stock metrics, fundamentals, and other such things. You can write your own indicators in TV with their Pine Script language, which is incredibly useful. Stockcharts has something similar, but I'm not sure if it's as user-friendly.

@sunspore I do use TI & Benzinga, aside from the scanner is it something that could be used to prep for the next trading day?

Thank You!

@BrandonB Absolutely! It's the best I've found. The platform has everything I need to actively day trade, and the functionality is better and easier to use than anything else I've tried. I struggled with different platforms for many months, banging my head against a wall in many cases. Once I decided to take the plunge and pay for this one, that all ended. It's worth every penny to me. There are different price tiers for added functionality and features, so you'll have to decide what's essential for you and if the price is worth it. Among the main competitors to this platform (TC2000, stockcharts, esignal, sierrachart), I don't think you'll find one that has this strong of a combination of agility, ease-of-use, functionality and cost. But each of us is different, so do your due diligence.
