Ninja Trader - well I've installed that and dabbled with it, but haven't gotten it working yet - that's another complex story. 

Yes, you can short stocks. Sometimes buy / sell buttons got frozen, but hey, this is a free software - expectations should be the same 🙂

I'm looking for a replay solution. Ninja seems great for futures and forex only. Could you share how did you get stock replay please ?

Don't bother with Ninja Trader anymore. DAS Trader has a "live replay" available now - better and easier than Ninja Trader. This thread is old and was made before DAS had the feature.

Ninja Trader's user interface sucked compared to DAS trader. The hotkeys in Ninja Trader were horrible to use and I gave up on them, just doing manual entry. VWAP isn't available in the free Ninja Trader so I payed like $150 for a third party module to get it. I also had to find a 3rd party data provider for the historical data, then manually import the data into Ninja Trader for each day that I wanted to trade. Then, the replay feature was super awkward, even getting the time to start the replay like 5 min before market open was a real pain with Ninja...

Sorry I do't remember more details on how I got Ninja Trader to work on this, but it's been 11 months since I've used this with Ninja Trader. I understand that the DAS replay isn't as good as DAS live, but it's still way better than what Ninja has to offer.
