Day Trading with TD using DAS

Recommended Posts

SamuelRice

Can anyone speak on the execution speeds within the first 15 minutes of the open using DAS Trader Pro with TD as their brokerage. I am getting mixed reviews and all the reviews seem to be from over a year out. Have they gotten any better. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. I watched the video with Jessie where he reviewed it but I was looking for maybe something more up to date. Thank yall, enjoy the weekend.

Hi @SamuelRice DAS works like charm with InteractiveBrokers Accounts plus the execution is speed is top notch ... is there any benefits using TD instead ?? +80% of the traders at BBT use DAS+IB

Do not reinvent the wheel if not needed... If you are using DAS, you will have more help from BBT channels using IB.

I am a TD user and commission is the main factor for me now to pick TD. I can place many orders with small fixed risk and as a new day trader which is important for me.  If I pick IB while in a learning stage, commission will be a big problem.

Generally speaking, so called "no comission" accounts are not meant to be used on intraday or daily basis, but more for general public interested in holding few stocks and start managing a small portfolio.

Think about a business : if you make a business plan but have zero capital to start with, what do you do ??? save or get a loan from the bank ... right ???

Moreover, TWS is only $10-12 /mo for L1 data and maintenance (you won't need L2 data if you won't be scalping) ... It is the best value-4-money you can get considering you will make or loose way much more every month from trading (or expect to)

Cheap comes at a cost ... which is the main issue asked in this thread opened by @SamuelRice ... It seems to me that there is a misconception extended in BBT that DAS is the fastest software around, however, all the orders executions are made by IB at the end. As soon as the backend is cheaper option (TD) then choosing DAS over TWS or any other platform loose weigh IMHO. If you wanna make scalping like Andrew : DAS + IB ($150/mo) ... if you plan on trend trading : TWS + IB (free software + comissions)

that is not right @peterBh  but agree DAS has some risk control tools.... TWS has different approaches and not those functions.... out of topic antways for this thread

if so, nothing that explain the trouble connecting das+td and the slow executions...

copied from the link provided, not very clear that DAS makes it all by its own:

The Direct Access Trading (DAT) allows you to trade directly with a market marker or a specialist of an exchange. This allows the ability for you to send an order directly to a market marker/specialist (route) without broker interference or re-routing. The Direct Routing (DR) also allows you to send an order to a market marker/specialist (route) you have chosen, however, the order is routed through your broker. This is often through the broker’s smart logic or an algorithm controlled by the broker’s Order Management System.

Please note that DAS is not a broker but DAS is the technology provider and in most cases the service bureau to the broker where DAS maintains direct access connections to the market. However for some routes, the DAS platform will have (re) direct access routing in which DAS connects to the broker’s smart logic that then re-routes the orders to the exchanges or a specific market marker or liquidity provider. Although some broker may call this direct routing, it is re-directed routing. If you want to use direct access trading via DAS, you must ensure that your broker allows it for your account and their system supports it through DAS. If they do, please remember to ask them for a list of available routes.

It really wouldn’t make sense for DAS to fulfill any orders.  Fulfilling orders is explicitly the role of a broker.  That is further implicated when we see the default algorithm for getting an order filled change dependent on the broker that is used.  Thus the broker is the one connecting traders in a transaction, DAS is providing data.

I’m pretty sure that DAS has a machine collocated in the NASDAQ which is what ensures real-time data.  I’m pretty sure that’s their selling point.

Interesting ... as said above, IB executes, DAS only throw punches and provide charts+L2 data directly from the stock exchange 😉
