as a canadian do i set my base currency in IB as CAD or as USD?

is it best to keep it all in US funds with IB while trading on US exchanges.

I believe that keeping everything in US funds is the way to go while trading US equities so that you don't get the exchange fee every time that you enter and exit. There are several forum posts on this subject if you do a quick search. (I have only used USD in the USA so I cannot say from personal experience.)
