computer set up

I'm new here and I can't find any info on computer and monitor set up and recommendations on what to get.  Anything out there that I should be looking at?

My 10 year old laptop runs it just fine, with an external monitor, the chatroom in the background, AND on my phone's hotspot! That's what I use for travel.

What brand of external monitor would you recommend?

I like Dell. You can find less expensive (or more expensive) brands of course, but they do have some good, reasonably priced choices for the performance. Decent warranties and service if needed. Opinion, it's a solid brand.
