Volume Price Analysis Study Group

Recommended Posts

Is anyone interested in forming a study group for Volume Price Analysis (VPA)? I'm basing it on Anna Coulling's book "The Complete Guide to Volume Price Analysis" https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Guide-Price-Analysis/dp/1491249390

As I'm reading through and learning that book, I like to look at charts from the previous day and correlate the things that I read about in the book to the things I see in charts. Problem is that sometimes I see the correlation, and when I look at a different ticker I see the opposite! So I think it would be helpful to study charts with other people so that a multiple of people can chime in with their opinion. I envision doing a zoom meeting on a regular basis after the market closes, and people will take turns screen sharing during the zoom meeting so that we can all look at charts and discuss.

Let me know if interested!

I'll participate, I get my copy of the book on the 16th, I can't wait to get started reading it.

Ok well to anyone interested - I'll plan to hold the first session of this VPA study group on Mon May 18 right at market close. If you're interested in participating, PM me your email, and I will send out an email blast to everyone with a Zoom invite link.

One thing too that I've found is very helpful - I'm not just reading this book. I read a few paragraphs, then go into the charts from the stocks in play for that particular day and try to correlate the information that I'm reading to actual candlesticks/volumes. If you just read the book and go "that's really interesting information!" you are missing half of it, because at least for me it really helps to correlate the info to candlesticks after the market closes to make connections, then for the next day it helps me to make those connections in "real time" which then leads to trading decisions... Look at the attached screenshot - I went short then covered at 12:10 using VPA techniques along with the Bookmap software - it works, and it's amazing!

Back a year or two ago, I too read her book and took notes of the principles o VPA. But I have had the experience that some of her examples are quite selective to suit the narrative. I tried to do my won studies with the VPA as a backdrop but have had little breakthrough in seeing consistency.

Would be interested to join this forum but the nominated time slot does suit as I will be at work at the time. Good luck with your study and this thread

I read this book a few years ago and it didn't gel for me. After Thors rec' I read it again a week or two ago and It has really clicked this time.  I see a lack of consistency  when I try to apply it in real time but Im hopeful that it will become a cornerstone of my trading in the future.  I might not make it to the first meeting but hope to catch future ones, great idea by the way😉

Sounds very interesting. IT would be great, if i able to join. I am still reading the book, very interesting perspective but couldn't used to real time yet. Still struggling. Just seems i am not reading well, or sometimes yes sometimes not.

We had a great study group, it lasted just over an hour and we had 5 participants. We'll plan to do another VPA study group next Tuesday, May 26 at 4 PM  ET (market close time). [To those in the group today, I did say we'll do it next Monday, but that's Memorial day and the markets are closed, so we'll do it next Tuesday]

This is open to all, but to get the most of the group, it's recommended that you have read Anna Coulling's book "The Complete Guide to Volume Price Analysis" https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Guide-Price-Analysis/dp/1491249390 - This group isn't a course on VPA, but rather it's a study group where myself and other participants can screen share to go over how VPA worked (and maybe didn't work) in some of the tickers that people watched and traded that day.

I will post the Zoom invite to this forum thread on Tuesday before the meeting, please check back here before market close on Tuesday to get the Zoom invite.

Great idea, Actually I read the book a year ago ,but I didn't get the concept! I have a plan to read it this week. By the way, she has another book with 200 plus examples that may help as a complement. Have you heard about that one? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078W1FJKK/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i3   Thanks for the  initiative .

Wish you all the best

I'm currently waiting on my copy of the book to arrive.  Once I've read some of it I might join in the group.
