Abiel 474 Posted January 5, 2018 With the Meltdown and spectre design flaws, seems like fixes can degrade performance by 30%. Time to go AMD? Abiel Guerra BBT Team [email protected] @abielguerra Find your answers in our Knowledge Base
Ryan W 76 Posted January 5, 2018 Not necessarily. It seems all chip manufacturers have some impact from this flaw. AMD typically has lower clock speeds and doesn't perform as well in number crunching applications (like trading platforms). My own results have been pretty stark when comparing an AMD chip to an Intel chip. Until they sort this out, this is going to be an on-going issue across all platforms. CassA 0 Posted January 9, 2018 I would totally go AMD, especially Ryzen. Ryan, I'm curious about your stark experience comparing AMD vs. Intel on trading platforms. I haven't thought about it alot just yet, but it would seem that network latency might be much more important then CPU compute. Network latency is measured in milliseconds vs. gigaherts.
