Trader Diary - Opinions

Recommended Posts

SirPatrick

I've been making my trader diary in Excel, automating as much of it as I can. I've combined it with another template that someone posted in the chat a week or two ago. I'd like some opinions on anything that in your opinion would be beneficial to add (or take away) to the diary. I am planning on implementing a method of having a weighted system for the "rules" such that the most important ones have a greater affect on the score. My goal is to keep it simple... over complicating it will make it less likely to be used.

Thanks for any feedback u can provide.
Happy trading,
P

Attached is my current template. Download (right click and save as) and change the file type from .pdf to .xlsm. Please note that the tabs auto color based on your P&L value for the trade. I typically copy the TEMPLATE tab and change the name to today's date. Fields in yellow are editable, the rest are locked (not password protected, so you can unlock as you see fit). I tried to make as much of it automated as possible. Hope you find it useful.

Haven't heard from you, but no worries. 😋

I've also been working on a tiny position sizer, for lack of a better name. Enter in 5 pieces of information and it will spit out your stop, first partial price and profit target level. If anyone is interested in utilizing it let me know (I'm sure there are already plenty of these out there). Image below is 3 separate screen caps spliced together to show the functionality (first is empty - fill in the yellow fields; second is if your looking to go short; and third is if you go long).

That's a real good point. I've been using small share sizes so I have not been taking partials (plus IB's TWS has no real good way to do it). I will work on adding some partials functionality and hit you up when I finish.

I love Excel so much. The formulas just make me all warm and fuzzy.  I reviewed what you've got and it looks good, quite extensive!

Hah, yeah got a bit formula crazy. It's been working well for me so far, had to break it up by month as the file was getting a bit unwieldy to work with. Thanks for checking it out.

Yeah, there's a second tab, sorry for not mentioning that. I hope you find it useful.
