LDLU on DAS charts and it's usage

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I see DAS montage has an option to config LDLU into it's Lv1 area. I had to look up what it means!

- Is it true that this is fixed for the entire trading day and doesn't change intra-day?

- Do any traders use it on daily basis for very liquid stocks (e.g. TSLA, AAPL etc) and mark it on their charts?

- Is there a config option in DAS charts to add the LDLU markers (like previous day close) to always show up in the charts, so I don't have to draw it each morning?

Thanks.

LULD changes intra day, this is the halt levels you see on low float stocks (volatility halts)

TSLA, AAPL etc is extremely unlikely to get halted, I hate to think the type of world news that would be required to trigger that. It's generally small float stocks that get halted because when they're in play they trade many multiples of their float and could move 10+% in under a minute.

I don't use DAS any more but I don't really understand your question. LULD is limit up limit down so extreme volatility markers, actual previous day close can be marked automatically but do you mean the close of the prior day LULDs? I'm not sure why you'd do this, they change all the time and historical LULDs have no bearing on the market. The current LULD shows on the L2 and sometimes you'll see them try hold it at the price to stop it getting halted.

Unless you're trading low floats LULD doesn't matter at all.

So far am focusing on high floats only. When I saw LDLU I wasn't clear if it would be applicable. For e.g. for TSLA, $10 moves aren't really out of ordinary within the day. Was thinking when TSLA was around $100, a $10 move would a 10% move, and in those cases would LDLU kick in, if it's set based on previous day price rather than intra-day. A trader may get stuck if trading around those prices?

Well couple of things, generally lower price things move less as an absolute amount but yes 10% days could happen.

However, more importantly to your question LULD is a 5 minute price so it would have to move X% in 5 minutes, assuming you're only trading tier 1 stocks then 10% in any 5 minute period within 15 minutes of the open or 25 minutes of the close due to increased volatility.  In the rest of the market open times it's 5% in any 5 minute period.
