DAS Montage SELL/SHRT Button

Good Afternoon,

I'm new at this and in my montage window I sometimes see "SHRT" and sometimes "SELL" on the same button.  Sometimes I just want to sell after a recent buy but the button will say "SHRT".  Is there any way to force the button back to "SELL"?  Thank you in advance,

if the stock is shortable it says short

if you have a long position opened it says sell if your order size is less or equal the size you have

so if your default setting is 200 shares and you bought 150 shares and you come back to the stock ticker it will say short instead of sell

its cosmetics only really. consider it as red 🙂

Thank you, Peter.  I was getting really confused when I bought a position and then attempted a trailing stop and the button said "SHRT" and I think that when the stop was hit a short was created automatically, but I could be wrong.  I will pay more attention to the number of shares and see when this happens, thanks again!  🙂

Short and Sell are basically the exact same thing...it's only the label on the button that changes. Just as Buy and Cover are basically the same. DAS just switches them so it makes quicker sense depending on your trade, but yes, if the shares don't match or whatever, it might not be perfect. DAS sums all positions and orders... For example, if you have 2 shares long and a stop for those 2 shares, the sum is 0. If you then try to sell 1 share, if both those orders got filled, then it would be -1 which would be short. People have issues trying to partial without cancelling the stop first if there are no shorts available, or they're on sim in SSR when you need to short on the bid.

Hi, Bryan.  Thanks so much, I understand better now, your example is excellent.  I can see I've been working the montage like a drunk monkey, have to stop that 🙂.  Hope you have a great weekend.
