30-Minute Opening Range Tips for better accuracy?

Recommended Posts

Hi Andrew,

I know this is a real general question, but I was wondering if you have any tips for trading 30-Minute opening ranges for better accuracy - I'm not sure what my accuracy is at the moment but it's probably around 40%-50%.

Any tips for when it may be more of a probability when a stock will stay within the opening 30-Minute range or not to improve on my accuracy?

For ORB strategy you want a small body that is lower than ATR. Small wicks is also good sign of less volatility. Entry should be a new high above the 30 minute body or new low below the 30 minute body. Make sure profit target is reasonable since price can move a lot after 30 minutes.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the reply. That was my initial question, but I submitted my post on accident before I was done. I completely changed my question to asking about a 30-Minute Opening Range (not a breakout). I'm trying to figure out how to play the inside range of a stock's opening 30-Minute high and low. It seems a lot of times it stays within this range later (at least until 8AM PST) so I try to buy when it hits the low again or short when it hits the high again.

For example:

Good 30-Minute Opening Range

as opposed to when it comes out of that opening 30-Minute range and I get stopped out like this:

Bad 30-Minute Opening Range

Any tips on this strategy...or is it not a good strategy?

Edit: My image links keep getting modified - that's why they're not working - it's not supposed to be https:// ... it's supposed to be http://
