DAS Bugs, Fixes and Enhancements, Dreams....

Abiel,

I just did that and unchecked the "Include in Scale" for all studies except price and this results in me again seeing several days worth of candles (see screen shot attached), which was my original problem.

If it is not too much trouble, you can send the DAS config files to me so I can try.  btw, my version is 5.5.2.3 (DASTrader Pro Free Trial).

NikkiB,

I think I might take you up on your suggestion.  Yes, the person I talked to did not seem to me to be the sharpest tool in the shed.  She was real good and protocol and procedure but did not seem that sharp when it came to knowing DAS or fixing my problem. But she admitted that she is in sales and is not a developer, plus she said I do not have access to developers or technicians, I can only talk to sales people.  Hence I feel I am almost in a catch 22 on this.

Matt

PS  Please pardon my 3 other responses.  I hit the submit button many times but it did not show until later and thus had to delete my multiple posts.

Abiel and NikkiB,

I was just in the DAS support chat and happened to chat with the same person I talked to last week regarding the horizontal compression of today's candles in the charts when the 200 day simple moving average study is added, and she said she checked with the Developers and confirmed that the charts are supposed to behave this way.  She said that this is because when you add the 200 day simple moving average study line, the developers intentionally force you to see several days' worth of data because this is how this study is determined.

In other words, this is not a bug.  When you are viewing only todays' data on a chart in DAS and when you then add the 200 day simple moving average study, your chart will then show the two prior days along with today's candles and horizontally compress today's candles to the right forcing you to zoom in to them.

They at DAS also recommend unchecking that "Include in Scale" box in the ExConfig for every study except price.  I notice that when I add "Price Marker" YYH, YYL, YH and YL horizontal lines to the chart, the candles get compressed in the vertical direction.  This problem is overcome by unchecking that Include in Scale box for all studies except price.

I don't feel like that's what my screen/charts do.  So is your problem fixed, or not?  Have you tried using a chart template (like I think there's one of Andrews under the files in the chatroom) and using that and then changing it how you want?  Maybe starting out with a chart that's already formatted somehow like you want it and changing what you want would solve the problem (because maybe there's some weird thing checked/unchecked on yours that no one knows about.....?)?  I'll send ya mine if you want.

Thanks for the heads up regarding Andrew's DAS settings.  I just downloaded his settings, and it works better.

However, when I try to modify them by trying to display a caption or label as to what each study line means as in the DAS Chart 1 training video in the BBT educational center, I cant.  As a result, I can not determine quickly what each study line is referring to.

Is it just me?  I find this DAS immensely confusing and frustrating as it is so not intuitive!  It seems to have so many quirks that I can never get it to do anything!  Am I the only one with this problem?

Yes NikkiB, if you could please send me your DAS files, I would like to try them out.  Same with you Abiel if you have the time.  my email address is [email protected]

PS: Thanks Abiel for your recognition of my previous post!

PPS NikkiB, do you realize that you are located just 15 miles from me?

LOL, I'm SURE you're not the only one.  I've now learned the platforms for Robinhood, Webull, TOS...and now DAS...so I'm getting pretty good at learning new platforms!  Sometimes I feel like my brain is going to explode trying to learn a new platform again.  If I were coming at this brand new not having the experience I do with the other platforms, setting up DAS would be REALLY hard.  It's still been a battle for me, but it's finally all coming together.  And I can tell you just from my experience with other platforms and my limited experience with DAS, I'm WAY excited to get going trading live on DAS - SO much easier.

I know what you're talking about wanting to have the "key" up in the corner to show what the lines are for - but LOL, once again, I've given the trading computer over to my son for a bit (can you tell it's been a big deal in this household that MOM, the non-gamer, got the gaming computer?  LOL!)  I can't remember where the checkbox is to make those lines show up - it's possible it's right there in the same config window where you needed to uncheck having the study show in the scale (IE - not have the 200SMA showing in scale), but I can't remember for sure.  I'll check tonight when I kick my son off my computer.  In the meantime, as a workaround, I have all of my MA lines different colors so I know which one is which, you could do that too.

I'll email you my desktop setup file later tonight.

AND...I just caught your PPS - NO WAY we are 15 minutes from each other?!  When I put that marker on there I noticed there were only like 4 BBT members around me, that's crazy if you're one of the ones that's right here!

P.S. - In the BBT YouTube Channel - check out the playlist "DAS Trader Tutorials" - I keep up with this one as William seems to be adding new ones almost every week.  Also the playlist for "DAS Trader Pro Instructional Videos."

To save yourself a step, I did what you hinted and you are correct, adding the label of a study is done by checking a box on ExConfig.

btw, I did play around with TOS SIM and it to me was problem after problem.  I could not get my studies to show in the sim, the sim was 20 minute delay which they said could be corrected if I fund a live account with $500, etc etc.  I almost felt manipulated on TOS, like they intentionally put roadblocks in the way to control revenue, protect the insiders or whatever.  I see and hear people writing complicated scripts in TOS, and I just did not want figuring out TOS and all its quirks to be my full time job.

btw, after zooming in on the map, you seem to be near Chantilly just south of Dulles (IAD) and near where the Fairfax county parkway intersects I66.  I am in Kingstowne near the other end of the Fairfax County parkway and near hayfield H.S.

Great - glad you found where to add that study label.

Yea, that's around where I live.  I didn't put the marker exactly where a live, just around the area.  I'll shoot you an email so we don't keep clogging up the forum 🙂

That comes with practice, talking about moving averages, the closer to the price = smaller MA (you will find closer to the price the 9, then the 20, 50, 100, 200, etc.) . Some members use dashed lines or colors to label different MAs and pricemarkers.

I have a questions re all this:

1.  I am thinking of Tradingsim.com.  How does that stack up to DAS Pro?  Is it one of those things that I am urged not to try Trading Sim because when I go live, I will need DAS Pro and would not have at that point to learn DAS Pro from scratch?

2. I am at the end of my 14 day free trial with DAS Pro.  I am dissapointed with my performance because I was hoping to get some trading experience these two weeks, and instead found myself spending the last 2 weeks setting up my charts and trying to figure out how to get it to work.  Any words of wisdom on this?

3.  I had a very long chat yesterday with DAS Pro regarding an issue, and they told me to email their developers at [email protected].  This is regarding the issue of not being able to display only today's candles when I include a long term study such as the 200 day simple moving average.  Here is a copy of that email, and will let you know when and if I get a result:

"Dear Developers,

I had an extended chat with sales today about an issue, and they encouraged me to bring up this issue up with you.

I currently have a 14 day trail period, version 5.5.2.3.

My problem is, when I apply certain studies to a chart, for example the 200 day simple moving average, your system will not let me view only today's data (see screen shot attached), as I must also view the data of the previous 2 days as well, causing today's data to be compressed into a tiny column at the right of the screen.  And when I go into "data config" and move the item in the drop down box from 3 day minute chart back to 1 day minute chart, nothing happens as your system prevents me from making this change.  I know I can use the mouse wheel or the up arrow to zoom into today's candles if I want, but doing so every time can be cumbersome.

As a day trader, I need to focus on candles and data for today, and not be distracted by data from previous days that I do not want or need to see, and not have to constantly zoom in each time I view a chart.

I raised this issue in the past, and you said that you intentionally force me to view several days worth of data when the 200 day simple moving average is included because the 200 day simple moving average is calculated  based upon previous days data and candles.

However, just because a moving average is calculated using previous days' data shouldn't force me to also view previous days worth of data (i. e. candles) when I choose to include the 200 day simple moving average study.

I also heard that if I go into ExConfig and uncheck the box that says "Include in scale", that this problem will be solved.

I have not found that to be the case.

Is it possible for you to add an option (like a check box or whatever) that allows us consumers to view only today's data/candles when a study such as the 200 day moving average is included in a chart?  Is it possible for you to not have to force us to view previous days worth of data when we want to display certain studies?

Matthew Lestina"

Any words of wisdom on this (Im new to this)?

OK, I'll give this a try.

I just started my free 14 day trial with DAS (version 5.5.2.3) and am running in to problems. My biggest problem is my charts refuse to show only today's data (i.e. today's candles), but keep reverting me to a chart where I have to also view the previous day or 2 days of data (i.e. candles) (please find screen shot attached).  As a result, I find today's data compressed into a very tiny region at the right of the chart.  I know this problem happens for 5 minute candles as in screenshot, but may happen to other candle times.  When I go into Data Config to change it back, nothing happens.  I can 1) change the drop down box at the lower right to "1 day minute chart", 2) change the drop down box at the lower right to blank and/or 3) Change the "from date" to today's date, but when I click commit, nothing happens and it continues to show several days worth of candles.  I know I can use the mouse wheel to zoom in to the right of the chart, but I don't want to (and I shouldn't have to) do that every time I want to view a chart in DAS.

I even have tried closing out the chart and creating a new one, and have noticed that certain actions causes DAS to force me to view the previous 1 or 2 days of data on the chart.  For example, merely by adding a 200 day simple moving average study causes the chart to automatically display the previous 1 or 2 days of candles.

When I called in to DAS customer service, they acknowledge that the chart behaves the same way at their end.

Anyone else encounter this issue?  Anyone else know a solution? Why am I a rank beginner (just on my 14 day free trial) and so soon encountering problems?

Matt

One thing you can do is right click in chart, zoom, set data range at the zoom scale you like. Or try this from the BBT DAS FAQ:

With DAS Trader you have the option to add Market Replay . It is included in BBT DAS Trader Sim 3 months subscription.

That's normal. It takes 1 - 2 weeks to configure DAS and get familiar with it.

This is my DAS chart for the same period, time frame and stock:

You need to reduce period of time (zoom in the chart) to get a good view of price action.

image.png.79c7046ca77e989be43195b350bbfda9.png

This is exact same chart and studies in another platform. Yes you need to zoom in the chart. Is not a DAS Trader bug or issue.
