Become a trader vs. following Andrew

Recommended Posts

Sayaberdagang

Hi guys,

I have been working on becoming a trader for about half a year now, in the beginning mainly focussing on swing trading.

As soon as I read Andrew's books, I became more fascinated with daytrading. Now that I join the chat basically every day and I am trying to be consistent in my simulator account, I have this one big inner conflict: On the one hand, I want to trade my strategies and work on actually becoming a trader. On the other hand, I feel like I can make a lot more "money" if I just follow Andrew and do whatever he does. However that's not why I am here, obviously.

So I guess, what i am asking is this: How can I turn off that voice in my head saying "just follow him and make some (fake) money" and focus on becoming an independent trader? I know this is quite a personal question but I guess many people here probably have been there, so I thought I'd ask. All comments appreciated!

Thanks a lot guys, see you in the chat,

Philipp Bali

Hi Phillipp. I´d like to challenge this assumption:

Have you done that? What were the results? If not, maybe try it for a week and report back to us the results.

Regarding your question:

What I used to do is mute the chatroom audio during the open and focused in my stocks on watch. Now I keep the audio chat on but I privilege what my eyes see in the charts. If something said / done by Andrew or BBT mods during the open make sense with my own style, strategies and risk management I analyze it and make my own decisions on it, I take that as an input but I don't try to mirror someone.

Never mimic Andrew, his entry point will be different than yours, his stop loss might be different and his tolerance for risk might also be different.

I also mute Andrew during the open but just so I am able to focus. Never compare yourself to him, he has been doing this for years

thanks for the advice guys. Just to clarify my statement: I don't really believe I can be successful mimicking Andrew, but sometimes it is hard not to feel that way...

I think you can turn off the voices after you’ve followed him enough times and see you can’t survive the pullbacks (because your entries will be delayed). Maybe you won’t feel it with sim but definitely with real money.
