Good question. I was curious about this too Dima. I think that the brief fundamental knowledge is useful for confirming the activity in the scanner—to understand WHY that stock hit the scanner. After the market opens, it’s all technical.
That’s my understanding.

I have been using +\- .02 with success for about a week. Missed one fill but I like the tighter gaps. May try .03.

I'm going to say that although I have a dedicated PC that is working pretty well at home, I do use my Mac at the office, and as I mentioned, it was working well until about a week ago. I think I have solved all of my pressing issues, and it is working fine right now. Overall, Parallels is working just as well as Bootcamp. Minor issues included display resolution problems, but those I have corrected through Windows and Parallels.
PRIMARY ISSUE (Warning--"it's a DUH moment"): I was having a serious issue with button sizing for my hot buttons. Somehow they compressed, and neither I, nor DAS support, nor anyone else could figure it out. Well, there's a setting in the hot button build for button height--DUH!! Yes, it's that simple. I set it to 45, and that fixed everything.
I will ultimately have a dedicated machine, which will be a PC if I stick with DAS, but right now it's very convenient to be able to use my Mac while on SIM.

Ok, so I tried this, and what I did for me (because I'm such a noob), is to set up 3 hotkeys for 25/50/100 shares, like this:
LONG
ROUTE=SMRTL;Share=25;TIF=DAY+;Price=ASK+0.02;BUY=Send
SHORT
ROUTE=SMRTL;Share=25;TIF=DAY+;Price=BID-0.02;SELL=Send
Then, I setup my stop like this, changing the SELL/BUY=Send command to SELL/BUY=Load, so I can hit ENTER if I like the price, or if I need to adjust I can change it and hit ENTER.
SELL STOP
ROUTE=STOP;StopType=Market;StopPrice=AvgCost-0.30;Share=Pos;TIF=DAY+;SELL=Load;
BUY STOP
ROUTE=STOP;StopType=Market;StopPrice=AvgCost+0.30;Share=Pos;TIF=DAY+;BUY=Load;
I'm going to run with them, and see how it goes.

Another idea would be to set the stop value to be a percentage of the price, rather than .30? This way it scales, based on value of the stock. I'm new to all this, so just trying to think it through.

I love the idea of a combined buy (or short), and stop feature. The only thing I’m struggling with is that the 30 cent pad may be good for a $25 stock, but on a $2 stock 30 cents is a lot.
I guess you could use a LOAD command instead of SEND so you could enter a specific stop value, then hit ENTER.
What is more common for experienced traders, a formulaic stop, or something more specific?

Robert thanks for all your help and effort in explaining this. You're right, I was confusing hotkeys with hot buttons, but the issue with the linked montages was SUPER frustrating. At least now I know "that's just the way it is!" --Sean

Oh, maybe I'm confused. When I first setup DAS, I used Andrew's hotkey file, which he provides on the website. I thought that perhaps if I create my own such file, I could do the same thing, and just load up the set of keys, rather than one at a time.

So basically, you should create a hotkey layout, and then load that into a new montage? I need to learn how to create a "set" of hotkeys. Haven't done that yet. I have only created hotkeys individually within my main montage.

So far I have run DAS on Parallels, and directly on a native Windows 10 install (bootcamp). It was running flawlessly for me until last week (about 2 weeks of trouble free use). I was running dual monitors, multiple windows across both, etc. THEN, a problem, which I have just given up on.
I created some custom hot buttons in my montage window, and they were working fine for a while. Then, all of a sudden, they compressed vertically, and are so thin that I can't really use them effectively--I'm afraid I'll mis one and click the other. It's very strange. Same issue on any Windows environment on the Mac. After fighting it, I setup a spare PC with my existing DAS layouts, and they loaded up fine. No idea what the issue is, but I have given up trying to use my MacBook Pro with DAS.

No, the issue I have is that no matter what I do, if I load the montage layout from one montage to a new montage, my charts stay linked to all duplicates of any montage with those hotkeys. How to I break the link between charts and montages? I tried dragging the anchor from the new montage to a new chart window, but that didn't work. It just mad the duplicate montage the "master montage," and all charts then linked to that one. Sorry, I'm just a noob.
The issue is less with the buttons and more with how to link a new montage to ONLY a specific chart. There seems to be more to it than dragging the anchor to a chart window. Thanks!

I have some hotkeys built in my main montage. I want to use them in other montage windows, which will be anchored to different charts, for different stocks. Do I have to rebuilt the hotkeys for each montage? I can't seem to find a way to import my hotkeys into the new montage windows without them anchoring to the original charts in my main screen. Thanks!

Today I was comparing while running both platforms at the same time, and the VWAP on TWS was the same as DAS.

I'm currently using DAS in SIM mode now, and it's great, but I am curious if any of you are using TWS from IB. Now that it has VWAP indicators, it seems it could be used effectively, and for a fair amount less per month than DAS. Would appreciate any insight, thanks!

Right. You don't want to be stuck in a bad trade because you miss a fill, but it's like insurance. You don't want to be over insured either. The market will always take as much as you will give. It's a balance. I have had pretty good luck at .02 +/-, but I know I'm playing with fire there. I'll probably loosen it up to .03.
