The second explains mostly just strategies and is a starting point. I like it, because I can write notes in it. They have a website as well which has all the strategies in the book online for free. Assignment can be a problem. So, I stick with SPX and XSP. I do most of my trades in XSP since it is less expensive. However, it is not as active. So, you generally have to give up a few cents on buying and selling. Good luck to you.
